Why I Want to be a Nurse
Tuesday, March 03, 2009
When I was three years old, I was diagnosed with type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.
It definitely changed the way I grew up during my childhood, and it shaped
the person I am now. I am currently a freshman in the nursing program at
Simmons College, and the main reason I am pursuing a career in nursing is
because I want to be able to help others with diabetes. Later, I could see
myself being a nurse educator. I am looking forward to working in Boston
after graduation, and the Joslin Diabetes Center is located right around the
corner. I am excited about this career path that is laid out in front of me,
and I hope to be able to continue down this path towards helping others. I
think it will be a meaningful career, and I believe patients will feel
comfortable because I can relate on a personal basis. I think I deserve this
scholarship because I am active in my school’s community, and I am a
member of the tennis team and my hall council. I have also been a
leader-in-training on a Joslin Wilderness Camp, where we camp for a week in
the woods while learning how to manage our diabetes. I hope to be a second
year LIT this coming summer. In the end, I just want to be able to work
doing something I love, and I am happy that I can do that while helping
others.
